Senior Environmental Scientist, Timothy M. O’Connor, C.E.P., CPESC, CPSWQ, LEED AP recently taught “It’s My Future” to eighth grade students at Seton Catholic Central as part of the Junior Achievement Program.
Junior Achievement is a non-profit organization that connects business and education to build a stronger community through programs that focus on work readiness, financial literacy and entrepreneurship. Business volunteers use their life and business experiences to teach a pre-designed program on the free enterprise system. The volunteer teaches a curriculum that focuses on business, citizenship, economics, entrepreneurship, ethics/character, financial literacy and career development.
During the six-week course Mr. O’Connor discussed the tools and skills required to earn and keep a job in high-growth career industries. Key topics included the following:

• 16 Career Clusters.
• High Growth Career Options.
• Career Mapping and Milestone Planning.
• Job-search tools—resumes, cover letters, interviews and digital profiles.
• Technical Skills vs. Soft Skills
